Subjects under scrutiny: phone call exchanges, ransom notes, suicide notes
Discipline: Forensic Linguistics
It was indeed a very fulfilling, overwhelming, and enticing special lecture by Dr. Isabel Picornell as she talked about two basic unique characteristics of language in helping us out unravel mysterious motives and suppositions to strengthen claims and get the culprit well-judged. These two basic features are consistency and/or linguistic patterns and language distinctiveness as revealed by our individual style of the written aspect of language. Several cases were exemplified for the audience to see the benefits of this field in the criminal court. Though forensic linguistics is just one supporting part of the justice system, no one can deny its essential role in serving justice to all.
